Third RIS Car to go live in West Essex

Rapid Intervention Service

On Monday 13th June, West Essex goes live with its third Rapid Intervention Service (RIS) car.

The car will cover Epping and Waltham Abbey PCN, to compliment the two other vehicles which are currently operating in Harlow PCN and Loughton PCN.

As part of the local admission avoidance strategy, the team of Advanced Paramedics support local GPs practices by providing urgent face to face interventions for acutely unwell patients who would normally require an ambulance. The team are linked into the integrated community teams and can receive referrals from GPs, EEAST crews, Community Teams and Care Homes via SPA.

Following the initial concept in 2017, the car can set up 6-week reablement care packages, physio, OT and palliative care when required. Clinicians are able to perform near side blood and MSU testing and review patients enabling them to deliver outstanding care in the community. There has been evidence to show that this innovative scheme has led to a reduction of 17% acute admissions into the local ED with 80% of patients discharged on scene.

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Stuart, Kimberley and Lucy and wish them the very best of luck with the new car.
