A successful CPD away day for CFRs!

Supported by EEAST charity

CFR groups respond locally and train locally so there is very little opportunity to get together. Recently, a CFR CPD away day was held at Mersea Outdoors.

Organised by Christine Cheetham, the successful event attended by wonderful CFRs was a mixture of team building activities along with medical scenarios, run by three paramedics.

Christine said: “Coordinators who look after their groups meet on Teams once a month, but the group members do not get the chance to meet often. As an experiential trainer in my full time job I know how important it is that part of our training needs to be about teamwork, leadership and communication skills as well as the medical skills.

Not only do the medical scenarios enhance medical skills but the teamwork element enhances the hidden benefits such as a sense of belonging, a sense of achievement and ultimately a sense of wellbeing.

What if we were able to do both as part of our CPD?I approached my manager at Mersea Outdoors and asked if I could hold a CFR CPD away day and he was happy to do this at a lower cost because it was out of season. I then spoke to Kevin, Claire and Aaron, EEAST paramedics, who often help with training when off duty and asked if they would be free to spend a day running medical scenarios and they came up with several great ideas which were very well received!”

The event was met with positive feedback from the attendees and hopes of more much events in the future.

“Have really enjoyed today.
Would love more medical scenarios Great combination of outdoor activities & training.”

“Brilliant day. Thanks to everyone.
Kit was brilliant. Everyone was great on the scenarios. Look forward to another”

Thank you to all who attended and thanks to all our CRFs for your time and efforts.
