Allied Health Professional's Day 2023

AHPs Day Logo 2023

Tomorrow, the 14 allied health professions (AHPs) will be celebrating the 6th annual AHPs’ Day.

As the third-largest clinical workforce within health and care, Allied Health Professions (AHPs) play a pivotal role in supporting the NHS Long-Term Plan. Within ambulance services we remain the largest clinical workforce of which I am proud to be part of and champion in my role as the Trust's interim chief AHP.

AHPs Day is an annual occasion for AHPs in England and now internationally to unite and revel in their contribution. Whilst this day offers a platform to spotlight the remarkable impact AHPs have on the delivery of care, every day, all of us help in some way across services, organisations, regions, and nations to achieve:

  • Reinforced awareness about the vital roles of each of the individual Allied Health Professions.
  • Highlighting local service achievements and their profound influence on patient care and public health.
  • Collaborative efforts with other services and organisations for integrated working.
  • A showcase for those considering a career as an allied health professional.

Working nationally and following the recent publication of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, I am working with other Chief AHPs in highlighting the synergy with the ‘enhanced foundation’ from our strategy AHPs Deliver of: AHP Community: the right place, the right time, the right skills as the theme.

This is to not only acknowledge on the 14th of October, but continually promote the impactful skills in patient care; inspire the future workforce; and foster connections that ensure AHPs are integral to workforce transformation and pathway enhancements within systems.

The Chief Allied Health Professions Officer (CAHPO) will be delivering a live address to the AHP workforce at 9:30am on 13th October 2023.

I also know plans are happening around the Trust including the CAHPO office celebrations, and local and regional events are being shared on the established AHPs’ Day network on future.nhs.uk (you may need to setup a free login if not done so before and search for National AHP virtual hub).

Thank you for what you do for our patients, your colleagues, and the profession in these challenging times,

- Simon Chase, Chief Paramedic/Allied Health Professional and Director of Quality (Acting)
