From tomorrow [Saturday 25 February], the ‘Call Before You Convey’ scheme in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will also operate at weekends.

Since being restarted in mid-October, the scheme has seen a reduction of up to 7% in avoidable conveyances to emergency departments in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Funding for the now seven-day service has been extended until May and the intention from partners is to maintain this beyond that as a business-as-usual function.

It is important to reiterate that this scheme is not aimed at removing your clinical judgement, but rather to enhance and support it.

The team based in the hub can identify in-hospital and specialist pathways not immediately available to us or they can prescribe medications to prevent an avoidable conveyance.

With the reduction in conveyances, it is helping improve our response times to our patients as more ambulances become more available.

Well done to all the team for their hard work and engagement in making this scheme a success.
