Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ‘Call before you convey’ returns

Concept ambulance NTK

We are pleased to announce that following the pilot of the ‘call before you convey’ service in June, it will be returning to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough from 17th October until 31st March 2023.

This is a great benefit for patients in getting them the appropriate care whilst avoiding hospital attendance and reducing long waits at hospitals. The pilot also received lots of positive feedback from staff who used the service saying how much they felt it had supported them.

This service is underpinned by the principles of the NHS Long Term Plan - for patients to receive appropriate care and treatment in the appropriate setting and encouraging NHS health and care services to work together to lower the numbers of patients being taking unnecessarily to hospital. The objective is to:

  • Increase see and treat patients with onward referral of patient care to community partners to ultimately decrease conveyance to acute NHS hospital Trusts.
  • Review where we may have missed opportunities and areas of development with our community partners to improve services available to our patients.

Terry Hicks, Head of Operations for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough said,

“the first and most important message to our staff in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is that they are already doing a great job with admission avoidance, so thank you. We look forward to continuing to work with our acute and community partners to review opportunities for us to provide even better healthcare for our patients.”

From 17th October, staff in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are being asked that every time they consider conveying a patient, they contact the ‘Call before you convey’ hub on 0333 332 6800 to discuss admission avoidance pathways prior to leaving scene, unless they are time critical. The hub is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 6pm.
