A north Cambridgeshire charity has received a boost after four ambulance staff completed the Three Peaks Challenge.
The Peterborough team battled the elements to trek up and down the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours to raise funds for the Helping Hands Group.
Phil Parr, Daniel Hansen, Damian Atkinson and Oliver Barker, who work for the Trust, were joined by Joe Quemby who also works in the health sector.
The team started on 18th July and conquered Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 23 hours and 45 minutes, which has so far raised more than £1,800 for the centre that supports adults with learning disabilities.
Their friend Ian Forbes, who was the designated driver for the challenge, has a daughter who attends the Helping Hands Group centre in Peterborough.
Phil said they were “very pleased” to have completed within the target time.
“It was hard going, especially in the 32C heat on Snowdon, which is usually the easiest mountain of the three.
“It was a rewarding experience though with a great bunch of lads and for a fantastic cause.”
The team have already surpassed their £1,000 target to raise funds for a new sensory garden and IT equipment at the charity’s new Wisbech centre.
The Helping Hands Group aims to promote and encourage adults to learn and further develop important life skills, including the ability to communicate and interact effectively with their environment.
