Cyber Security Awareness Month

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month!

The number of phishing attacks and cyber-attacks are at the highest they have been, with one occurring every 39 seconds! And one of the main things that cause cyber-attacks is human error.

Recognising phish and other types of cyber-attacks should be everyone’s priority list, for both your personal and work life.

The Information Governance and Security and Resilience teams are seeing an unprecedented amount of phishing emails that the Trust and individuals are receiving. These are becoming more sophisticated and harder to spot. Because of this, last year the Trust invested in MetaCompliance. The team have been sending out nano training to help develop everyone’s understanding on cyber, security awareness and incident reporting. MetaCompliance also provide a phishing simulation software called MetaPhish. This is to help prepare everyone to recognise, remediate and report phishing emails to the Trust. The team will be sending out these simulated phish throughout the year, so be aware and keep an eye out! This is designed to be a learning tool and is used to improve staffs awareness around phishing emails.

Remember

*Think before you click! Do you know the person who has sent you the link? If you do know them, does the email look like what they would send? Or is it out of the ordinary that you are hearing from them with a link? If unsure – report, and do not click.

*Never provide your username and password to anyone. Cyber criminals can use email, and phone calls as a way to steal your information.

*Multi factor authentication helps to ensure that you are the only person accessing your account – the Trust will be introducing this!

*If you have clicked a link- report immediately to IT and Informationgovernance@eastamb.nhs.uk – we may have to disable your account whilst investigations are being undertaken.

We all know what a cyber-attack can do to an organisation or multiple organisations, the attack on Advanced this year which, took out Adastra, caused significant disruption across the NHS and other services.

Any questions please email informationgovernance@eastamb.nhs.uk who will be happy to answer any queries!
