Deputy Chief Operating Officer set to retire after 34 years

Rob Ashford

Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Rob Ashford is set to retire in March 2023 from EEAST after 34 years working for the ambulance service.

“Wow… where should I start, I joined the London Ambulance Service on PTS in January 1989, progressing on to A&E in 1990.

I then progressed through various managerial posts up to Deputy Chief Ambulance Officer. I have had the opportunity to work for a number of Ambulance Trusts and even had a brief spell in the independent sector.

I have now decided after what will be just over 34 years to retire. I will be leaving EEAST on the 31st of March 2023.

This was always going to be a very difficult decision having given so many years to the service. However, I now want to spend more time with my family whilst exploring other opportunities.

I have gained so many dear friends in that time and I hope I have positively impacted on many lives. I will miss a number of you very much but will take so many happy memories with me.

It’s great to have started my career in PTS and being able to retire in a PTS role, I will do all I can in my remaining time to help bring PTS into a more sustainable position.

During my last 3 and a half months I will naturally have the opportunity to say a few thank you’s and also goodbyes.

I am thankful for my career and if there is one thing I can advise it’s don’t stop caring.”
