Documentary filming with Magpas Air Ambulance

Medics from Magpas Air Ambulance

Magpas Air Ambulance is about to start work with BBC Studios on an upcoming documentary which has been commissioned by Channel 5 with a view to broadcasting in the Autumn.

With the quick turnaround time for show, filming will begin with the charity imminently.

There will be no film crew following Magpas Air Ambulance teams on scene – all filming will be done via body worn GoPros which their medical team members will be wearing.

When recording, the cameras will clearly be on and have a red flashing light. The teams will also be wearing a notice patch stating that they are filming for a Channel 5 show to notify crews/other people on scene, too.

They will also carry business cards detailing what they are filming for with contact details of the access producer on.

The Magpas Air Ambulance teams are following a strict consent process when it comes to filming patients.

BBC Studios have said they will keep focus on the patient and Magpas Air Ambulance team on scene, and anyone else will be blurred unless they feature heavily in the footage treating patients or have explicit written consent. To gain consent Magpas Air Ambulance/BBCS will work closely with the EEAST comms team.

Any stories Magpas Air Ambulance end up featuring in in the final product, will be run past the charity’s medical director for factual accuracy before sign off, and if EEAST feature in the footage too, EEAST will also view this footage at the same time.

Filming is expected to last around six weeks.
