Enhanced Fire Safety Training - September 2023

Fire Extinguisher

The Face-to-Face Enhanced Fire Safety Training that was previously booked through Evolve has now moved to OLM.

Please see below courses that will be available for fire training which can be booked on OLM.

  1. Fire Attended Training - to be completed every 3 years, with online training in the intermediate years.
  2. Fire Marshal Training, as required when nominated – dates to be added in due course.
  3. Fire Marshal Refresher Training, to be completed annually, on completion of the initial training - dates to be added in due course.

It is a statutory requirement for EEAST to send the below staff groups to complete the fire safety training that is being provided.

  • Clinical managers (including LOMs, HALOs, AGMs, GMs & HOOs, DCOOs & Directors) will be required to undertake in person fire safety training.
  • Staff who work at home or work across bases, or only intermittently on site are still required to undertake the in-person training.
  • Agency staff and bank staff will be required to undertake in person fire safety training.

Staff Group

Requirement

All Non-Responding Staff. This includes EOC staff, clinical staff in corporate services and colleagues who are not full-time responders (e.g. clinical managers whose roles have elements of office based work) and those seconded into roles in these teams.

  • Face to Face Training every 3 years – Training dates are available on OLM
  • E-Learning on a yearly basis apart from the year face to face training completed E-Learning available on OLM

All Responding Staff

This is staff providing full time emergency response on ambulances or RRVs. This includes ambulance crew grades, substantive SPUCs/APUCs/SPCC/APCCs/HART/CFRs.

  • E-Learning on a yearly basis available on OLM

Fire Attended Training

The training course syllabus for the Fire Attended Training will cover the below topics:

  • The characteristics of fire, smoke, and toxic fumes and how they spread.
  • Common fire hazards in the workspace.
  • Fire prevention and how to stop fires.
  • How to raise the alarm and call the Fire Service.
  • The roles and responsibilities of fire wardens.
  • Current laws and legislation in the UK.
  • Real life cases studies and film footage of fires.
  • How to use each extinguisher correctly.

Fire Marshal Training

Legal responsibility under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

The training course will cover the below topics:

  • Fire prevention covering relevant aspects related to your business & premises
  • Live Fire Simulator and use of Fire Extinguishers
  • Real life case studies
  • Fire safety checklists
  • The "Fire Triangle" and the spread of fire
  • Electrical safety in the workplace
  • Compartmentation in properties
  • Kitchen fire safety
  • Improving fire safety
  • Evacuation strategies
  • Practical evacuation drills
  • Fire service liaison & requirements
  • Grab bags & their importance
  • PEEP (Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans)
  • COSHH/DSEAR regulations
  • Comprised escape route strategies.

Fire Marshal Refresher Training

On completion of the initial Fire Marshal Training, you will be required to complete an annual Fire Marshal refresher course.
