Fit For the Future blog: Inclusivity Plan

EEAST Fit for Future People logo

This month we are talking about the Inclusivity Plan that is in place to shape EEAST into a better place for our staff. The recent BME survey result showed that there is still more work to be done to create an inclusive, open and equal work environment.

What is the Inclusivity Plan?

The inclusivity plan is a 3-year action plan for EEAST and it covers everything around Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

The BME survey and corresponding action plan is one part of the EEAST inclusivity plan. Along with other staff surveys, including the LGTB +, Disability, and National staff surveys.

What is the aim of the Inclusivity Plan?

The inclusivity plan is based upon four principles:

  • Making EEAST safe for all our staff
  • Developing community partnerships
  • Developing a recruitment campaign to promote EEAST
  • Developing career pathways for all our people

What is in the Inclusivity Plan?

The Plan sets out the practical action we will take to improve the experience of our colleagues with protected characteristics, so that everyone feels safe. We hope it will help people feel comfortable and supported in bringing their whole self and encourage much greater diverse representation across the organisation.

The inclusivity plan will also provide much more information about all Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) activities planned or underway across EEAST . We hope it will encourage discussion about this essential topic over the coming years and months.

Moving forward, all EDI workstreams, including the WRES, WDES, Anti-racism charter, GPG and the new EDS22 are now held under this single ‘Inclusivity plan’.

This plan will be managed on a rolling three-year cycle, mapping out year on year progression against the plan for each key element.

You can listen to Caroline Nwadu, Head of Culture and Inclusivity, and Navrita Atwal, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager, having an in-depth discussion about the Inclusivity plan here.
