Giving statements to police

Transparent EEAST crest

A recent case has highlighted the need for us to manage the situation around operational staff giving formal statements to police officers.

Our staff are often called to difficult situations and can become involved or witnesses to situations requiring police intervention or action. After such incidents our staff can be required to complete formal police statements. To assist with this we have created a dedicated out of service code for ‘police statement’, so that operational crews can be stood down from duty to complete the statement undisturbed.

Should any crew find themselves in any circumstances where they need to complete a formal police statement they should contact their duty locality officer for support and notify EOC who will arrange an appropriate stand down under the out of service code. These circumstances can be difficult and stressful and all staff are reminded of the services provided to support staff through your line manager and under the Employee Assistance Programme which you can call on 0800 085 1376.
