Hitchin ladies club learn more about calling 999

The Trust’s patient and public involvement (PPI) team met with the Punjabi Ladies over 60s club in Hitchin last month, offering the group information about the service and what they need to do in an emergency.

The PPI team regularly meets with the public at meetings, events and shopping centres in the region, offering free blood pressure checks and healthcare advice, providing information about the service and asking for people’s views.

Patient and Public Involvement Manager, Sotu Marshall-Wyer, said: “It was great to meet the Punjabi Ladies club. We discovered before meeting them that the ladies were very reticent to call an ambulance, preferring to deal with many issues within their own communities.

“We offered blood pressure checks and gave them our ‘Message in a bottle’ pots, which encourages them to keep their personal and medical details on a standard form and in a common location – the fridge.”

We have further events planned in the next few weeks. If any of you would be interested to help out at any of events, please contact Patient and Public Involvement Officer, Gillian Langley, by emailing gillian.langley@eastamb.nhs.uk.
