Important changes to end of shift housekeeping claims

Ambulance PE report

An inconsistent working practices (IWP) task and finish group has been set up across the Trust to ensure that consistency is achieved.

This process involved gathering information from all areas of the Trust and agreeing a consistent approach where it has been identified there may be some local variations or terms and conditions have been applied inconsistently.

Following this review across the Trust, a decision has been made that the practice of employees claiming 15 minutes overtime at the end of their shift to complete tasks should not be occurring. This includes:

including:

  • removing PPE and personal kit from the vehicle
  • booking in
  • securing drugs
  • removing clinical/domestic waste and
  • all other housekeeping tasks

 should not be occurring.

With immediate effect, end of shift house-keeping claims will no longer be authorised, and therefore claims should not be made.  For clarity, overtime can continue to be claimed where employees are attending any incidents that take them past the end of shift finish time.

With all timesheets being completed electronically via GRS, there is no additional payment for completing your individual timesheets. GRS can be accessed via Trust and personal devices.

The decisions above have been taken to ensure consistent practice across the Trust and are applicable to all employees.

In addition to the above, clarity has also been sought around attending occupational health meetings and sickness reviews whilst on a period of absence. The following can be found in the Occupational Health Referrals Toolkit, Section1.6:

  • Staff are unable to claim mileage and/or overtime on a period of sickness absence to attend a sickness or OH meeting at their base station.
