Leadership Learning Circle on Inclusivity

record 3

The next session of our informal ‘Learning Circle’ discussions for managers will focus on ‘Inclusive Leadership within the Trust.’

The event will be on 14th March from 14:00pm- 16:00pm and will focus on how to be an inclusive leader for the Trust.

As leaders we have long understood what is meant by Equality, which ensures that every individual has equal opportunities, regardless of their background, identity or experience. We know that Diversity recognises that, though people have things in common with each other, they are also different in many ways. Inclusion is where those differences are seen as a benefit, and where perspectives and differences are shared, leading to better decisions. It is an environment where you as a manager know that everyone should have a right to equal access to employment and, when employed, should have equal pay and equal access to training and development.

It is your role as managers to both guide your staff towards success and bring your staff together as a team. Inclusive leadership is a style of leadership that can improve collaboration and problem-solving while considering the differing perspectives of all your team members.

As our leaders you play a pivotal role in the Trust's current culture journey. You are able to reflect on any biases or assumptions you may have and strive to remain non-judgmental in your interactions with your teams. Remain open and positive during discussions.

In this event you will have the opportunity to discuss how to create an environment for your team to learn about each other's differences and cultures and use the knowledge to develop and encourage inclusive behaviours.

How does Learning Circles work?

‘Learning Circles,’ was launched at the beginning of June. It is a series of informal discussion groups being carried out remotely over MS Teams, giving managers the opportunity to talk about a variety of topics. The sessions are aimed at providing managers at all levels of experience with some practical ways to tackle issues they may face as a leader.

They are a ‘safe zone’ for open conversation where managers can share experiences and gather different perspectives from colleagues on how to approach similar situations in future.

Who can attend?
Any leader with line manager responsibility is welcome. Half of the available slots will be reserved for operational and AOC managers; the other half will be for corporate and support service managers. Each session will be for ten people. Specialists from the senior leadership, HR and staff side will be on hand to assist with facilitating the discussions.
