Leadership Learning Circle on Neurodiversity in the Workplace

Team

This month’s session of our informal ‘Leadership Learning Circle’ discussions for managers will focus what is Neurodiversity in the workplace and how to support neurodivergent colleagues.

Neurodiversity refers to the variation in the human brain regarding sociability, learning, attention, mood and other mental functions in a non-pathological sense. The term itself was invented by an Australian sociologist called Judy Singer in 1998. Judy Singer believes that people with Asperger’s are not disabled but are a neurological minority. She also believes that it is hard to explain your differences when you don’t have the language to articulate your feelings, particularly in the workplace. It is important for our leaders to understand the neurodiversity complexity and accommodation of people with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia.

The Leadership Learning Circle will provide a critical learning in addressing the challenges, so that our people with neurodiverse can reach their full potential at EEAST.

The event will be held virtually via MS Teams on Thursday 21st September between 9:30am-11:30am. The event will have SMEs, Representatives from Kays Medical team, and Specialist presentations, for our leaders to learn. There are only limited places, therefore please hurry. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis!

How does Learning Circles work?
The ‘Leadership Learning Circles,’ have been successfully running for over a year. It is a series of informal discussion groups being carried out remotely over MS Teams, giving managers the opportunity to talk about a variety of topics. The sessions are aimed at providing managers at all levels of experience with some practical ways to tackle issues they may face as a leader.

They are a ‘safe zone’ for open conversation where managers can share experiences and gather different perspectives from colleagues on how to approach similar situations in future.

Who can attend?
Any leader with line manager responsibility is welcome. Specialists from the senior leadership team, HR and staff side will be on hand to assist with facilitating the discussions.
