Multi-union recognition agreement

The Trust has now formally recognised Unison, GMB and the Royal College of Nursing as the three unions. 

The formal agreement means that all three unions now have a voice in negotiations with the Trust with to ensure a fair and open process for working together, while recognising the rights and interests of each union and its members. Previously Unison had been the sole recognised union at EEAST.

 

EEAST CEO Tom Abell said: 

“I am pleased we have been able to work closely with our unions recently and have now been able to recognise RCN and GMB alongside Unison.

“I look forward to continuing to work together with our unions to improve the working environment here at the Trust for all our people and the care we provide for our communities.” 

 

Gavin Davies, GMB senior organiser for London Region said:  

“This is good news for all staff employed by East of England Ambulance Service and our GMB members.  

“This gives GMB and the joint trade unions a proper forum where we can address all issues and make the Trust a better place for patients, staff and union members. GMB is looking forward to developing good working relations with EEAST and we are grateful to the local GMB Branch and the EEAST management team for the amount of work that was put into this agreement.  We are equally positive about what this means for all staff and are optimistic about the future working with our sister unions the RCN and Unison.” 

  

Peter Passingham, Unison regional organiser said: 

“We are pleased to have the GMB and RCN standing beside UNISON as recognised trade unions within EEAST. Now, more than ever, it is important for NHS staff, especially those in the ambulance service, to make sure their voice is heard by being a member of a trade union. By standing shoulder to shoulder UNISON is sure that the three unions will give EEAST staff that voice.” 

 

Teresa Budrey, regional director RCN Eastern Region and East Midlands Region, said:  

“The Royal College of Nursing Eastern Region is pleased that the RCN is now a recognised Union working in partnership alongside our other trade union colleagues at the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust. This will support the nursing workforce at the Trust to be recognised and know their voice is heard as we work together.”
