The Learning and Development Team are pleased to announce we have organised 5 new CPD courses for February/March 2023 – hosted virtually by LIVES.

Due to the criteria of the funding awarded to the Trust by Health Education England, these courses are available for substantive registrants only.

Each session will have a mid-morning break, 30mins lunch & afternoon break.

Mentoring Masterclass

1-day CPD session. The day is an opportunity for you to refresh your knowledge and skills in mentoring healthcare students and providing a robust programme for their clinical supervision.

Course Objectives:

  • Define mentoring and what makes a good clinical mentor
  • Create an inclusive mentoring environment
  • Evaluate the different styles and models of mentoring and organisational influences
  • Analyse learning and development styles
  • Demonstrate understanding of cognitive frameworks
  • Understand the importance of action planning

Head Injury Assessment and Management Masterclass

1-day CPD session. The day covers anatomy and pathophysiology of head trauma secondary to injury. It proceeds onto real case reviews, which allow your workforce to discuss and debate treatment and management options.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand anatomy of the head
  • Examine pathophysiology of head injuries
  • Assess injuries in the pre-hospital environment that relate to head injuries
  • Manage emergences in the prehospital environment that relate to head injuries

Patient Centered Care Masterclass

1-day CPD session. This session will cover a variety of evidence-based models of how to ensure that the patient is focused and involved in their care. Your staff will be engaged in discussion and debates on the syllabus of the day.

Course Objectives:

  • Be able to define patient centred care
  • Be aware of national expectations in relation to person-centred care
  • Analyse the challenges of providing person-centred care within their profession
  • Manage a difficult patient situation

Time Management for Ambulance Clinicians Masterclass

1-day CPD session. This course explores strategies for how ambulance clinicians can overcome time troubles within a modern-day service. It explores techniques for prioritising tasks and focusing on the needed work. Your workforce will be engrossed in hands on learning with group tasks and discussions.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the course content and learning outcomes for the session
  • Understand time management definition
  • Explore a variety of time management tools an aids
  • Assess the use of technology to aid in time management

Paediatric Illness Masterclass

1-day CPD session. This is an engaging session exploring anatomical differences seen in children along with focusing on a handful of common childhood illnesses and strategizing their treatment and management correctly.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the course content and learning outcomes for the session
  • Manage an ill child in the prehospital environment
  • Understand differences in anatomy with a child
  • Show clinical understanding and describe immediate prehospital management of a variety of acute medical emergencies in children

Breaking Bad News Masterclass

1-day CPD session. The session explores the appropriate communication skills required for breaking bad news to relatives, patients, and colleagues. The session is heavily focused on case-based discussion and simulated learning.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand why its important to break bad news in the right way
  • Analyse the different models/frameworks commonly used
  • Effectively deliver bad news to a patient
