New Patient and Public Involvement Strategy

The patient experience team are really pleased to announce the launch of our new Interim Patient and Public Involvement Strategy.

This is the first truly co-produced strategy undertaken by the Trust.  This project went beyond consulting with our patients and has been led by them, their views and needs within the communities that we serve.

We achieved this by running a series of 16 co-production workshop sessions, involving 70 attendances by patients, community representatives, volunteers and specialist groups. Co-production sessions were as inclusive as possible, and sessions were offered at a variety of times to suit the needs of individuals and community groups.

The strategy is set out on a single page which details the 5 key domains identified by the public as important to them:

  • Ethos
  • Involvement and Engagement
  • Accessibility
  • Communication
  • Networking

The work plan to support the delivery of the strategy is currently being collated to meet the objectives identified within the strategy and making use of the detailed comments and feedback gained through the co-production workshops.

We are also really proud to have gained wider recognition for this work, having been approached by two other Trusts to share our co-production process with them. We were also asked to present our strategy to the national Heads of Patient Experience (HOPE) network conference on communication, and it is now going to be included in a case study for the NHSE&I new statutory guidance on working with people and communities.
