New trauma equipment: the EZ-IO

EZ IO

The Trust’s latest trauma equipment will be coming soon to a station near you – with training being delivered locally in how to use the EZ-IO intraosseous infusion system, trauma packs, traction splints and a new glucose meter.

A series of articles on each piece of equipment will be published on Need to Know in the next few weeks, with accompanying introductory videos. To start this series, the focus is on the EZ-IO, which will be available for paramedics to use once they have completed their training.

The Arrow® EZ-IO® Intraosseous Vascular Access System uses the intraosseous space of the humerus, tibia, and distal femur (pediatrics) as a large, non-collapsible vein.

Worldwide, the safety and effectiveness of intraosseous infusion is recognized as a standard in vascular access. A substantial body of evidence in the medical literature supports outcomes facilitated with intraosseous access. Articles describing Arrow® EZ-IO® Intraosseous Vascular Access System pre-clinical and clinical studies, published in respected peer-reviewed clinical journals in six languages, support the clinical effectiveness of our technologies and provide the evidence-based data expected by health care professionals.

You can watch a video on the EZ-IO below - please note this is an awareness video only and you will not be able to use the equipment until you have been trained by a manager.
