Ofsted publish inspection report into Medipro

Ofsted logo

Medipro, our education provider for apprenticeships, has received an inadequate rating by Ofsted following an inspection in November.

The four-day inspection focused on learners who were passed planned end date (PPED) and many of these were in the group which had transferred to Medipro in October 2021.

The report found that learners from this group had not had the experience and support that should have been expected and, for this, we would like to apologise. The arrangements for safeguarding were found to be effective.

While we recognise the review is disappointing and highlights clear areas for improvement, EEAST is committed to working with Medipro to successfully support all apprentices through their qualification.

For EEAST learners in this group, Medipro have already initiated a review of their paper-based portfolios and will agree individualised action plans and clear milestones with these learners. EEAST will closely monitor the progress of this work.

It is important to reiterate that apprenticeships will continue and current learners will suffer no disruption.

We recognise that some apprentices did not receive all the planned return weeks for their programme and EEAST will initiate a recovery plan for these in early 2023.

We have produced a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section on Need to Know as we know that many of you will questions. If you have any questions that you feel are not covered and want clarification, please email apprenticeships@eastamb.nhs.uk

We will also plan to hold a Teams Live event in the next couple of weeks once we know more details on the implications of the report from the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

Medipro record

Of the 537 leaners transferred to Medipro in 2021, over half have successful completed their apprenticeship with another 80 preparing for End Point Assessment. Those who have completed End Point Assessment over 80% have passed with Merit or Distinction.

Medipro have supported 278 new apprentices Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) into our workforce over the last 18 months with over 85% of these learners on track to achieve planned end date.

Apprenticeship pathways form just one part of the education provisions at EEAST.  The new Education Delivery Framework looks to introduce clear internal progression pathways at all levels in 2023, alongside further internal Paramedic progression opportunities.

This will make it far easier for our own people to progress and achieve their full potential. EEAST aims to introduce new pathways in 2023 to grow its number of advanced practitioners. There will be opportunities for progression from entry level roles right through to Advance Practice roles.
