Overtime Incentive Scheme

The Trust is offering incentive payments for selected overtime shifts this winter. 

The additional payments are available on specified dates in specified areas, subject to advanced authorisation. To remain eligible for the additional payments:

  • Only the dates and times specified on the table below attract the additional payments.
  • Only the resource types or specialism on the table below attract the additional payments.
  • Shifts must be a minimum of 10 hours in length and must be agreed with local manager or Sector Resource Planning Manager in advance.
  • Overtime will be paid at the applicable AFC rate.
  • All part time, full time and bank staff are eligible for the additional payments.
  • For overtime shifts worked in December, no cancellation of any pre-booked overtime or sickness absence between Monday 19th December 2022 and Saturday 31st December 2022 inclusive.
  • For overtime shifts worked in January, no cancellation of any pre-booked overtime or sickness absence between Sunday 1st January 2023 and Monday 19th January 2023 inclusive.
  • No other absences other than pre-booked annual leave or positive COVID-19 diagnosis (it is the employee’s responsibility to provide LFT evidence to their line manager).
  • Personal compliance with relevant IPC and COVID-19 standards at the time are maintained.

Local teams will dynamically control the availability of overtime shifts based on their staffing need/risk; therefore specific arrangements/limits may exist in certain areas.

It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure that the Working Time Directive is complied with. Managers will ensure the wellbeing of all staff undertaking additional duties and maintain compliance with statutory rest periods.

Staff working pre-agreed overtime on:

  • Shifts rostered as part of a two -person crew on a double staffed ambulance.
  • Shifts worked in ECAT clinician, ECAT Clinician Team Leader, ECAT Assistants or Clinical Coordinator roles.
  • Shifts rostered in emergency Dispatch or Dispatch team leader roles in any of the three control rooms.
  • Shifts rostered in emergency Call Handler and emergency Call Handler Team Leader
