Research learning: Approvals for NHS hosted studies

Ambulance nurses to join EEAST

Any research study involving NHS patients and/or staff must have Health Research Authority (HRA) approval. Research Ethics Committee approval may also be required, however, this will depend on the nature of the research being undertaken.

Before any activity begins for a research study in EEAST, as part of research governance, the Trust’s Head of Research (Theresa Foster) must review and authorise the necessary study documentation. This will ensure the proper arrangements are in place to initiate, manage, monitor, and finance the study and protect the dignity, rights and safety of participants. Please contact her or the Team via research@eastamb.nhs.uk.

For further information about the HRA and research approvals for a study you are planning or are involved in please see: Approvals and amendments - Health Research Authority (hra.nhs.uk).

If you have been asked to take part in a research study and not sure if the necessary approvals have been granted, please contact the Research team via research@eastamb.nhs.uk.
