Restart a Heart day returns

Next week is the return of Restart a Heart Day, and to mark the occasion we’re offering basic life support (BLS) training to EEAST colleagues at work, absolutely free. The Restart a Heart campaign is aimed at raising awareness about cardiac arrest and encourages everyone to learn CPR, giving them lifesaving skills and the confidence to use them. 

 
We know that on the Trust wide Q&As there have been requests to provide colleagues who aren’t on the front line, with BLS training and over the next couple of weeks there will be four different opportunities for you to drop in at locations around the region and learn how to save a life.   

 

Jon Needle, community response manager, coordinating the EEAST plans for Restart a Heart Day said, ‘In the past, our focus for this day has been on getting out into the community and encouraging as many people as possible to undertake BLS training as part of our EEAST Heart scheme.  

 

‘This year, we’re taking it a step further and I’m really pleased that we’re able to put on these sessions for our EEAST colleagues as well. Obviously, we won’t be able to capture everyone, but I am hopeful that this will be something we can offer again in the future as we know that colleagues are keen to take part in the training, and as a big organisation training our staff means thousands more people out there with BLS knowledge.   

 

‘We know that providing CPR to a cardiac arrest patient early on is a vital step in their treatment and recovery, known as the chain of survival. The fact that a cardiac arrest can happen anywhere means we should all be responsible for knowing what to do, if and when, we are faced with a friend, colleague or loved one who needs CPR. 

 

The sessions will take place during the next fortnight at Hellesdon, Chelmsford AOC, Bedford Hammond Road and Lakeview House. Local management teams will share details of the dates and times with colleagues nearer the time.
