Supporting patients in our community

Ambulance line up blue sky

The Trust has identified 7 locations within the Norfolk and Waveney, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICS footprint where we are going to trial the concept of Staff responding.

This is a voluntary option for staff who live within those communities, to be able to respond to C1 calls to provide clinical care to patients prior to the arrival of colleagues. This will be responding to the local community under normal driving conditions, with a primary response kitbag.

The Chain of survival highlights the importance of early awareness and calling 999, early BLS from the bystanders, and early defibrillation of patients, with appropriate back up to continue the care of patients and the transportation to hospital. To support this chain of survival and enhance our work with local communities where we are offering community education, support public access defibrillation and community groups we are looking for qualified staff to support the trial.

If you are resident in any of the following communities and would be interested in volunteering to become a staff responder please send your expression of interest to cfr@eastamb.nhs.uk indicating the community where you live, your line managers details and your contact details by the 28th October 2022.

This is a voluntary opportunity which we are extending to qualified staff. The staff responder role is a partnership between the community response team and the operational team, and to undertake this voluntary role you will require your line managers support.

The identified communities are:

  • Beccles
  • Bungay
  • Halesworth
  • Wells
  • Ramsey
  • Chatteris
  • Whittlesey

These have been identified as communities where we experience a reduced capacity to respond to patients within the local community. While we have, or are supporting the development of community first responder groups, additional support within these communities will benefit patient care.
