Temporary reconfiguration in senior service delivery structure

Ambulance side shot

As some staff may be aware, the new Sustainability and Transformational Plan (STP) footprints are now up and running nationally for the NHS, and six cover our region.

We have to continually be responsive to remain a provider of choice, develop opportunities, and safeguard our future - STPs can help our service play an important role in helping change how the NHS operates and manages patients across a system for their best outcome and experience.

We’ve taken the decision to temporarily change the structure of senior service delivery roles to better match these landscape changes. There will re-alignment of the deputy director level structure together with colleagues from the senior locality management team who have been temporary appointed to better engage with our STP footprints. In this temporary change we are not looking at reducing posts from the current SLM level but looking at how to reconfigure our existing capacity. This new temporary senior level structure will be live from Monday, 5th September, and you can see how it is set out here:

The whole range of options on how to divide the region have been explored and the configuration should help us to move further towards a regional approach in how we operate, but with some more localised autonomy to meet STPs’ evolving needs. This shift around is temporary and I will be reviewing its effectiveness in the coming months, coupled with feedback from staff and stakeholders to understand if the way we have reconfigured is fit for the future.

In a rapidly changing NHS environment, change is often felt and responded to differently by different people. Many staff may not feel that these changes would directly affect them, and we have aimed to start to develop some stability and hopefully little impact on the way you work as you know it today. However, it’s important we don’t make any assumptions and your feedback would be really welcome if you feel an impact on your work, positive or negative.
