Thank you for supporting World Patient Safety

World Patient Safety Day EEAST

Last week, we celebrated World Patient Safety. This culminated with World Patient Safety Day which focused on the 2021 goal, 'Safe maternal and newborn care'.

We included a great deal of information on our dedicated Need to Know section, as well as communication from our leadership team and local managers.

EEAST also held a Maternity Masterclass which, despite increased demand, was very well attended. Many thanks to Kerrie Wykes and Daimon Wheddon who did a fantastic job in hosting the event. The masterclass was recorded, so if you were unable to attend, you will soon be able to watch through evolve. Please simply search 'Maternity Masterclass' on evolve.

Across the globe, there was phenomenal support for World Patient Safety Day. The World Health Organisation held many seminars and an international conference, which featured guest speakers including the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, Director General of WHO. Further details can be viewed here.

The key message was to highlight that everyday 5,400 still births occur, 810 women die during childbirth and 6,700 babies lose their lives. The WHO believes that most of these lives can be saved through the provision of safe care. The WHO's global action safety plan provides a strategy to eliminate avoidable harm. The campaign video can be viewed here.

Thank you very much to all those who made World Patient Safety Day at EEAST a huge success. #worldpatientsafetyday
