The flu vaccine isn’t just about you

Boost your immunity this winter

Flu is a highly transmissible and serious infectious disease caused by a virus. People with flu can spread it to others when they cough, sneeze, or talk.

As a health or social care worker, you’re more likely to be exposed to the flu and COVID-19 viruses. You care for people who may be at greater risk and it’s easy to pass these viruses on without knowing. Healthy people can pass it on to more vulnerable people during incubation.

Don’t just protect yourself – protect everyone around you by getting the flu vaccine.

Having your flu vaccine will help protect you, your patients and your family and friends from potentially serious illness, as well as the people you provide care for.

The flu vaccine is your best protection against the virus.  The viruses that cause flu can change every year, which means the flu (and the vaccine) this year may be different from last year. Each year new strains of flu circulate; the vaccine itself changes to suit the current strain.  This year we have a quadrivalent vaccine, protecting you, family, friends and patients against four known flu viruses.
