Tell us  what would make EEAST the Trust we all love to work for

The People Strategy was launched in March as ‘the start of a conversation’ with all the people of EEAST.  We want it to be a meaningful, living strategy that will create a working environment that makes EEAST the Trust we all love to work for.

This is a strategy that is being written and owned by all of us who work for EEAST.  To that end we have established focus groups made up of colleagues from across the Trust to look at 8 different themes that tie into the ‘NHS People Plan pillars’, ‘Our People Promise’ and ‘The future of NHS human resources and organisational development 2030 vision’.

Health and Wellbeing

Employee Experience

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

Developing Our People

Building Through Innovation

Make Life Better via Digital Solutions

New Ways of Working and Delivering

Transforming the People Profession

The Focus groups have been running each day from May throughout June, focussing on a different theme every time.  Colleagues have been very generous in giving up their time for this (with some people even joining on their days off) and we have had some insightful and excellent input.  People share their own experiences, the challenges they face, the opportunities they would like to see and when considering the question ‘If I were CEO, what would I do?’, come up with innovative and positive suggestions.

Feedback so far is that we welcome the opportunity to have a voice in determining the things we need to do to achieve a culture and employee experience that creates an exciting and attractive workplace.  It has also provided a great networking opportunity for those of us who take part.

There are two main pillars emerging:

  • Actions and initiatives for consideration e.g protected time each month, for colleagues to undertake mandatory training and once complete, use the time for further development. Program of Role Models: recognise and acknowledge people in individual areas who behave in positive ways that inspire others. Increased use of videos as a means of communication.

2) Increasing awareness about ongoing initiatives in the Trust which we are not aware of but will address some of our concerns e.g. clinical education for frontline staff to deal with issues like wound management or catheterisation thus avoiding hospital attendance.  The clinical education team are currently developing plans on increasing skill sets to reduce the requirement for A&E attendance.  Another initiative that is underway which people are not necessarily aware of is for the Executive team to increase visibility at sites.  This has been requested within the focus groups.

The next step will be to analyse the inputs and emerge with a set of proposed actions under each theme which the focus group participants people Groups will present to the Executive Leadership Team at EEAST.

Then we will create delivery groups responsible for the committed actions who will have an Executive Sponsor and report quarterly to the Exec.

There is still time to join a Focus Group. The remaining dates are below.

Please contact cathy.o’driscoll@eastamb.nhs.uk if you would like to do so, or if you cannot join a group but have ideas, you would like to share.
