Last night I was lucky enough to join some of you for our Stars of EEAST 2023 Awards ceremony. To all of you who won an award, were shortlisted as finalists, or were nominated, I want to say congratulations. So much of what we do here is about being part of a team, and recognition from your colleagues really is the ultimate accolade. It was great to see so many of you being celebrated by the people you work with, so to those of you who took the time to fill in a nomination form all those weeks ago, thank you, it wouldn’t have happened without you.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have also participated in a Lean Recruitment Workshop with colleagues from across EEAST to review our recruitment processes and make improvements to benefit our candidates and leaders. It was a very productive three days, and I am excited to share with you all the outcomes in the next few weeks.

Making Time to Lead

Thank you to all in frontline operational roles who have engaged with the Time to Lead pre consultation period, which launched last week. We have had really interesting conversations with those people who have attended the face-to-face sessions so far and we are really keen to hear from more people in the roles affected by these proposals.

As a reminder, the Time to Lead page on EAST 24 details the proposals, and includes a Q&A pack addressing questions raised so far, as well as details of the face to face meetings being held as part of the pre consultation.

We want to ensure that people who would like to ask a question and discuss the proposals are able to do so. If you are in frontline operations please sign up to the face to face events at the Evolve booking page here or sign up to the Teams meetings here. Your views are critical to this process, so please do take the time to either e-mail TTL@eastamb.nhs.uk or fill in the dedicated feedback form here.

National quarterly Pulse survey now live

The latest quarterly Pulse survey opened on Monday and runs for the month of July. You can find a link to the survey here and whilst it’s not mandatory to complete it, the more of you who share your thoughts, the clearer the picture we have of the organisation and where we need to make improvements. So please, over the coming days take five minutes to click on the link and tell us what you think about working for EEAST. The survey is completely anonymous.

Ordering shorts

With more hot weather on the way, it seems the perfect time to let you know that uniform shorts are now available for frontline staff to pre-order from our suppliers, Specialwear. Delivery of the shorts will not happen for a few weeks yet, but pre-orders can be placed via your usual nominated colleague who will then place the order through the Specialwear Uniform Portal.

Keeping your details updated

The information that is included in your Electronic Staff Record (ESR) provides an ongoing record of your employment, and it is important that you occasionally log in to check your personal details are correct and up to date.

For anyone who has not yet done so, can I ask you to please go into your ESR and complete the section on ethnic origin and disability. This provides us with the most accurate view of our workforce when it comes to protected characteristics, so that we can ensure that we are representative of our communities and to ensure we are responding in a timely fashion to requests for reasonable adjustments from colleagues living with a disability. You can access your ESR here.

Sharing your reasons for leaving

Last week an email went out to managers about the importance of asking colleagues to share their reason for leaving when completing an HR termination form. The numbers of people doing this have dropped significantly but it is important for us to understand someone’s motivation for leaving the Trust. It could help us to improve the experience for others and help us to create an environment where we all enjoy coming to work.

There are several ways of providing feedback on your reasons for leaving:

  • You can do it while completing an HR termination form with your manager (managers have been reminded, but if you are not asked then please feel free to volunteer the information when completing the online forms together).
  • You can also complete your exit questionnaire online via ESR (and will receive an email inviting you to do this before you leave)
  • There will also be a link to the questionnaire in your leaving letter from the Trust.

Thank You Thursday

This week’s Thank You is for colleagues from St Neots ambulance station.

‘I would like to thank them for treating the patients with care, dignity and respect. As a registered nurse myself, I witnessed first-hand their compassion, knowledge and professionalism. They kept the patients calm throughout the visit, even managing to make us all laugh. They are a credit to the service!’

Thanks for all that you do.
