Tips for a successful ePCR Transfer

RRV with blurred paramedic

Recently we have seen an increase in failed ePCR transfers from one iPad to another as well as records being accidently sent to the wrong user.

When sending a record to another user the safest method of finding that user is their payroll number.  As these are unique you will know you have found the right individual and not send the record to the wrong user.

Before Starting a transfer;

  • make sure the receiving user is on the latest version of siren (Currently 5.6.0)
  • You both have a green light on Siren
  • Confirm you are sending to the right user
  • Add a note in the “Care Plan” about the reason for the transfer

After sending a transfer;

  • Remember you still need to finish the record
  • Select the outcome ‘Pt Care Transferred to other user’
  • Complete any mandatories
  • Finalise the record

If you receive a record in error;

  • Do not delete the record
  • Complete a datix
  • Alert the user who sent the record (if you can)
  • Add a comment to the record to say, ‘This record was transferred to me in error, I had no contact with the patient or involvement with their care.’
  • Finalise the record selecting the Incident Outcomes ‘Record Created in Error’ (found in the incident section of the side bar) and deselect any outcomes previously selected in the normal Pt Outcomes section.

If a transfer is delayed arriving consider restarting both devices and logging back into Siren a fresh, this can sometimes clear any delayed messages.

If the transfer doesn’t arrive don’t be tempted to resend the record to the same user, this will result in the record eventually arriving twice, you may consider however sending the record to the other crew members device.

When cohorting, ensure the last user to receive the record sets the Outcome as ‘Treated and Transported’ with the receiving hospital set. This will allow the hospital to view the record.

Remember that sharing a record is only for use when you are continuing the patient care of one patient.  Where a scene has multiple casualties it is important to start a new record for each individual patient.

If having tried all these steps the transfer has still failed, please raise a datix.  The crew expecting to receive the transfer should create a new record to document the patient care, note that the transfer failed within that record. Remember that transferred records that have not arrived will not appear on the hospitals screen.
