Update: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Patient Transport Services contract

transparent eeast crest

In August we shared the news with you that we would not be bidding for the contract for Patient Transport Services (PTS) in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Since then, the tender has failed and a new tender with a higher financial envelope has been published. Although the value of the tender has been increased, after careful consideration and evaluation, we have taken the decision not to submit a bid as we still can’t provide an effective service for patients with the funding available.

This has been a tough decision as we have held this contract for over 20 years, but we feel the funding available is still not enough for us to provide a quality, patient-centred service.

We remain committed to PTS work wherever possible, providing the right financial support is in place to allow us to provide our patients with the best possible care.

The PTS contract for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is not due to be taken over by any new provider until October 2024.

Once we know who has successfully won the contract, we will let the affected staff know and provide an update on Need to Know.

This updated news will obviously be unsettling for staff working in PTS in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. We have discussed the next steps and how we can support them. All staff will have the opportunity to TUPE transfer to the new provider when a contract is awarded.

We would encourage anyone impacted by these decisions and contract changes to talk to your line manager, contact the employee assistance programme on 0808 196 2374 or the EEAST Wellbeing Team: wellbeing@eastamb.nhs.uk
