Update to clinical waste labels

Sharps box

The clinical waste labels, that are used on the side of soft-bagged clinical waste and locked sharps bins for disposal, have changed. This is due to a change in Environment Agency requirements.

We’d be grateful if, with immediate effect, duty locality officers (DLOs) at sites disposing of clinical waste could please discontinue using labels that display a site code, and download the new versions by:

  • accessing the public drive, or P:drive on the Trust network
  • going to the ‘Clinical waste labels’ folder
  • downloading the new document for their site, which will contain the newly formatted labels.

We’d also like to remind colleagues that, when disposing of clinical sharps, the sticky labels must not be stuck over the manufacturer’s label(s) on the containers; if this has happened, then the sharps for disposal will not be collected.

If you have any queries, please contact waste@eastamb.nhs.uk.
