Updates to resource allocation guidelines, including RRV back-up

Further work has been undertaken to build on the resource allocation guidelines, which were updated in June, to support emergency operations centre (EOC) dispatch staff by reducing complexity around the tasking of resources.

The updated guidance will go live at all three EOCs from 7am on Monday 18th August. Following feedback from some staff, the key change is to the diversion of double staffed resources to back up rapid response cars with solo responders, as follows:

  • back-up to HOT 1 will only be diverted to a confirmed Red 1 patient where the back-up is the closest available Trust resource.
  • back-up to HOT 2 will only be diverted to a confirmed Red 1 or 2 or Green 1 patient where the back-up is the closest available resource. To confirm, back-up will not be diverted to emergency calls in progress, unless the event is a predicted Red 1 or 2 and will be swapped back if this turns out not to be the case.

This change will help to improve back-up times to solo responders and to provide better care for patients, in line with the other priorities being taken forward by the Trust.

Solo responders are requested to use HOT 1 requests appropriately, to allow the opportunity to improve the response to HOT 2 with these new guidelines.

Confirmation of the type of back up requests to be used (i.e. HOT 1, HOT 2, GREEN 3 and REPRI) will be issued soon.
