Waveney Car CFRs win Community Pride Award

Waveney car award

The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce held their awards in Lowestoft on the 10th November 2022. This event celebrated many different organisations who support the local communities and businesses.

One of the awards for the evening was The Community Pride Award which recognises those who enhance their localities and the lives of people living in them, by sharing their resources and talent with the local community irrespective of size or sector, and was sponsored by Lowestoft Rising, a group of public sector and volunteer sector partners with the aim of improving the quality of life for everyone growing up, living, working, investing in Lowestoft.

The Waveney Car Community First Responders were selected as one of two finalists where the judges felt, at a time when ambulance services are so stretched and waiting times are so unpredictable, that a group of volunteers who have done some 1500 hours and attended some 500 incidents helping people until an ambulance can arrive, is a worthy finalist. Truly unsung heroes.

And the winners were… the Waveney Car Community First Responders. The Award was presented by Phil Aver on behalf of Lowestoft Rising to Mark Hayes and Stephen Rose on behalf of the local Community First Responders from the Waveney Car.

Phil says ‘This band of highly trained volunteers are there for the whole Community of Waveney, giving up hours and hours of time to be ready to respond and potentially helping to save lives through their dedicated work. None of us know when we might need such a service and this award recognises their complete community spirit on behalf of us all.’

Lorna Hayes, Head of Community Response for EEAST, says ‘this is a fantastic recognition for the community first responders in the community, who provide so much for their local communities. Well done to all the volunteers who have provide the care for the patients in the Waveney area.’

Congratulations!
