We will be holding a Wellbeing Walk at Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds from 9 until 11 am on Friday 25th August and are doing this in celebration of International Dogs Day that is taking place on Sat 26th August.

International Dog Day, the annual event which honours all dogs — no matter their shape, size, age, or breed. Dog lovers are encouraged to make an extra-special fuss of their forever furry friend, and those who want to be dog owners are encouraged to check out adoption centres near them to try to give every abandoned dog a home.

Attending will be Melissa Dowdeswell, Director of Nursing, Safety & Quality/Acting Chief Operating Officer, Debs Crelly (new Head of Health and Wellbeing), Liz Cunnell, Chief of Staff, Esther Kingsmill, Deputy Head of Corporate Governance, and Heather Adams, Health and Wellbeing Business Support Manager, to name a few.

It is well documented that dogs are good for our health and wellbeing. The benefits include greater levels of exercise, lower risks of cardiovascular disease and increased immunity to allergies, particularly in children. The results of a University of Lincoln study found that dogs save the UK health sector an estimated £2.45bn a year.

The primary result was reduced visits to the doctor and a significant improvement in mental health and wellbeing.

We hope to see you there!
