Workplace Behaviours Survey 2023

Transparent EEAST crest

As part of the commitment to improving our working environment and tackling unacceptable behaviours, we are reviewing and assessing the progress that has been made, and those areas where we need to continue to focus on. To help us do this we would like you to provide feedback by completing our 2023 Workplace Behaviours Survey.

Following the 2020 CQC survey on culture and behaviours in EEAST, we undertook our own Trust workplace harassment survey in both December 2020 and January 2022. The latest results highlighted real concerns around some staff being subjected to bullying, sexual and racial harassment at work. Concerns were also raised relating to how colleagues were treated in relation to their sexual orientation and disability; concerns also seen in the results of our recent Equality, Diversity and Inclusion surveys.

Since the last survey, we have undertaken a number of activities which has included:

  • Values and behaviours training
  • Specific senior manager training on identifying predatory behaviours in the workplace.
  • Ensuring all our clinicians to a safeguarding level 3 which incorporates sexual safety and professional behaviours.
  • The introduction of a new Skills for Health Code, covering the expected behaviour standards of all our registered and non-registered clinical staff.
  • Establishing a Professional Standards Group to identify what additional actions we can take to embed our Trust values and behaviours through all that we do.

Your feedback will help us to understand where we are at now, and help us identify additional action we need to take to improve our working environment.

We are seeking your views on all types of colleague behaviour - the good and the bad. Some of the questions may feel direct and uncomfortable, but the more we know, the more we can recognise and celebrate what's great and take action on what's not.

This survey is completely anonymous, nobody can be identified by the answers they give or the way they submit the survey.

  • The survey is open for the next three weeks and it will close on Friday 29th September.
  • We would like all of our people, including our volunteers and bank staff, to complete the survey.
  • It should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete this survey depending on what you want to say. There is space for you to comment against each of the questions and to give your view on what else we can do at the end.
  • It can be filled in at work or you can email the link to yourself so you can fill it in at home.
  • If a question is not relevant to you, please move on to the next one, but if it is relevant then please tell us what is happening and how frequently.
  • We are asking for information about your ICS area and function to identify areas that need more help and support. There is an optional box if you want to tell us exactly where you work.

If you have been affected by any issues raised in this survey we have a range of services to support you, including:

  • Freedom to Speak Up Guardian, Janice Scott: 07562 158013 or FTSU@eastamb.nhs.uk
  • EEAST wellbeing team via email: wellbeing@eastamb.nhs.uk

  • The Ambulance Service Charity (TASC) crisis line: 0300 373 0898
  • Kays Medical, our occupational health provider, Employee Assistance Programme 24/7: 0808 196 2374.

If you are being bullied or harassed, we want you to Speak Up; if you see other people being bullied or harassed, we want you to Speak Out against it, and if you are bullying or harassing others, to put it simply we want you to Stop.

Your participation is vital to ensuring we have an open and honest workplace and we welcome your time and support. Thank you.
