World Mental Health Day 2022

World Mental Health Day takes place today, 10 October 2022, and this year's theme, set by the World Health Organisation, is "'make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority".

To mark World Mental Health Day, 10th October, we’re sharing a podcast recorded by EEAST Paramedic Joe Cartwright and Debi Roberts from the Ollie Foundation, who sat down together to discuss the importance of suicide prevention and talking about your mental health. Joe also talked about his own personal experience and different ways to support friends or loved ones who are struggling.

It is widely reported that mental ill health will affect one in four people at some point in their working lives. Mental wellbeing can be affected by the experience staff have in their workplace. Factors such as workplace loneliness, stress trauma and management styles can all have an impact. Mental health charity Mind found that found 30 per cent of staff disagreed with the statement ‘I would feel able to talk openly with my line manager if I was feeling stressed’ and 56 per cent of employers said they would like to do more to improve staff wellbeing but don't feel they have the right training or guidance

It can be difficult to know when someone is struggling, or when to ask for help yourself, but the one thing we can all do is listen to each other and keep sharing information about the support that is available and how to access it.

Here at EEAST There are many ways you can access support.

The Wellbeing resource “Sources of help” provides information on the regional support on offer across EEAST and you can find it here. All the services included can be accessed whether you’re struggling with issues at home or work.

If you are in distress, considering self-harm or are having suicidal thoughts call the EEAST crisis line which is available 24/7 on 0808 196 2370.
