#24HoursInEoE and a weekend of V – update from Robert Morton (18th August)

Robert Morton, CEO

I know many of you will be familiar with the programme ’24-Hours In A&E’. It’s a really popular programme because, believe it or not, the public really like to see behind the scenes of the health service; the drama, the care, the emotion, and the people all seem to make TV gold. So tomorrow (19th August), we’ll be running our own version - 24-hours in the east of England (or 24-hours in EoE for short). From 7.30am, we’ll be tweeting live from different areas of the service to try and show people how we work, what we do, and to give a glimpse of what it’s like here at EEAST on what will most likely be a really busy summer’s day for us.

Things will be starting off from Chelmsford EOC, and across the day there will be tweets from the Bedford and Norwich control rooms, patient transport services, the training team, our fleet workshop, one of our volunteers, and will then finish up with a 12-hour shift on an ambulance. Please get involved on Twitter using @EastEnglandAmb and #24hoursinEoE if you can – the more support and promotion we can get, the better the impact will be. We really want to highlight the fantastic work we do, so please get involved (and if you’re not on Twitter, you can still follow all the action from the homepage of our website).

I’ve dropped by Dunmow, Leighton Buzzard, Berkhamsted, Rickmansworth and Borehamwood stations over the last week. The main talking points were kit, vehicles, future models of care and clinical development – all topics that get interest across the board. It was good to see some familiar and new faces, and I hope it won’t be too long before I stop in again.

This weekend sees V-Festival come to the region once again, and I know many of you will be working there on behalf of the Trust so I hope it all goes well. So much planning and preparation goes into this every year to make sure that we’re keeping the hundreds of thousands of people there safe. My thanks to all of you behind the scenes who have been so intrinsically involved in making sure it all runs smoothly.

Going forward, we will be asking executive colleagues to provide some updates so that we all have a broader overview of what is happening across all areas of the Trust. I hope many of you will have the opportunity over the summer to take some time with your family and friends – bon voyage, travel safe, and have a wonderful time.

Robert
