ALF2016 Awards: EEAST celebrate two winners

Two staff members from EEAST have won nationally recognised awards at the Ambulance Leadership Forum (ALF) Awards. Student Technician Steve Wainwright won the outstanding non-paramedic clinician award and Head of Clinical Quality Tracy Nicholls won the outstanding senior manager award.

This year was no exception in standards for nominations, Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) Managing Director Martin Flaherty OBE said: "It was a particularly high standard for nominations, but these awards are a fantastic way to recognise and commend ambulance service employees across England who have truly gone above and beyond the call of duty."

Steve was nominated because of his dedication to educating school children across Peterborough about the ambulance service. He set up an extremely efficient programme for school visits, devoting his own time and money in doing so to provide valuable information and resources to those children.

So far, Steve has visited schools on 47 separate occasions while working for EEAST and speaking on his win, he said: β€œI was so proud and very honoured to be nominated, let alone win. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last three years getting to this point.”

He added: β€œTo win the regional award in 2014 was amazing but now a national award; I am truly blown away. I complete my 50th school visit on 26th February and then it is on to the 100th.”

Tracy was nominated following her passion for patient care which is at the heart of everything she does as well as acting as a true role model within the organisation. Sandy Brown, Director of Nursing and Clinical Quality said: "Tracy is full of commitment, energy and passion to all in the ambulance service. She is constantly striving to learn and develop her own knowledge which she in turn shares with colleagues. In addition, she has been instrumental in developing patient care."

Speaking on her win, Tracy said: "A nomination in itself is amazing; I was thrilled to stand with Steve as part of EEAST. Taking two awards out of the ten is a real achievement but I have to give credit to my brilliant team who enable us to take strides forward in patient safety, effectiveness and quality."

She added: "The Trust has staff that does an amazing job every day so I look forward to seeing them continue to raise the bar for our patients and services in every aspect."
