Bank holiday calls rise by 7.8%

Demand was up again this bank holiday weekend as the Trust saw a 7.8% rise in emergency calls.

An extra 609 emergency 999 calls were taken across the patch from Saturday (29th) through to Monday (31st) compared to the August bank holiday last year.

Chief Executive Robert Morton said: “Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who worked or volunteered over what was a very busy bank holiday weekend. I really appreciate your efforts to keep our service running to a high standard, despite the big increase in both demand and pressure on you all.

“In line with both national and international trends we are continuing to see a dramatic increase in demand, the result of which is a stretch on our our capacity and our people. I’ll be raising this with our commissioners, MPs and other stakeholders to discuss as we look to the future.”
