Achieving our vision together

County map with crest

At EEAST, our vision of “outstanding care, exceptional people, every hour of every day” isn’t just words on a page, it’s an aspiration of where we want to be as an organisation, a skilled and supported workforce doing our very best for both patients and public.

Our vision was developed by listening to our staff, volunteers and patients and is what we all want to see and experience when we are at work. It is a five-year goal, and everyone has a part to play in achieving this for our organisation.

But what does it actually mean for me?
Our vision will mean different things to different people, but the important part is understanding how we can work together to achieve it. In order to make it achievable, the vision is under pinned by four goals – or objectives – that are the focus of all the work we do within the Trust. They are:

Goal one: Be an exceptional place to work, volunteer and learn
This first goal focuses on our staff, students and volunteers. Developing, engaging, and empowering our people will automatically improve the service we provide to our communities. During the next five years we will be looking at recruitment and training, for both staff and volunteers, ensuring we are skilled enough and diverse enough to meet the needs of our patients. The first key priority, however, is tackling the culture of the organisation and ensuring that everyone acts with civility and lives by our Trust values of Care, Quality, Respect, Teamwork and Honesty.

Goal two: Provide outstanding quality of care and performance
This goal supports our ongoing commitment to maintaining our CQC rating of outstanding for care. Quality of care is everyone’s responsibility and each of us must reflect on the part we play. We are determined that everyone should receive the right care, whenever and wherever they need it and improve clinical outcomes for patients. This includes, looking at how we support our people to deliver high quality care every time whether that’s through new technology, such as ePCR, quality improvement schemes or specific patient pathways to support more consistent delivery.

Goal three: Be excellent collaborators and innovators as system partners
Everyone knows the NHS and the wider systems are changing; add to this that we are a regional provider across six separate systems, and it is easy to see the challenges in making sure that we support and progress within this environment. We want to support cross-system care, so the entire healthcare journey for any patient is effective. The digital strategy and implementation of ePCR are key to achieving this goal, as they will support more rapid, high-quality handovers of patient information, meaning even safer, more effective ongoing care. Similarly, multi-disciplinary schemes such as the mental health street triage initiative, all support closer working.

Goal four: Be an environmentally and financially sustainable organisation
Goal four is all about how we focus on getting the best out of our resources, both in terms of value for money and in terms of our sustainability. We have committed to an ambitious green plan, working to do our bit to reduce our environmental impact. The Make Ready roll out and our estates transformation programme are just two of the important steps we’re already taking towards ensuring we are fit for the future.

What have we done so far?
Remember, this is a five-year plan to get us to our vision of outstanding care, exceptional people, every hour of every day. There are no quick fixes, but we will get there, and we are already making progress.
