Acting locality director appointed for Essex

Following a competitive recruitment process, Karl Edwards has been appointed as the acting locality director for Essex. Karl is taking up the post with immediate effect. 

Karl joined the ambulance service in 1997 as a call handler in Chelmsford EOC. He then became a dispatcher before training to become an EMT and later a paramedic. Karl has also worked on the Essex Air Ambulance and held management roles in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire as well as regional roles. His most recent post was as Senior Locality manager for west Essex. 

Karl said: “I am pleased to be taking on this role and look forward to working with staff, managers and stakeholders to improve the way in which we deliver emergency and urgent care to the patients of Essex. One of the areas I am keen to focus on is how we support staff to improve their working lives and development in the organisation, providing new opportunities and learning to ensure we maximise the potential of all tiers of clinical skills.”

Rob Ashford, Acting Director of Service Delivery, said: “I am delighted that Karl has been appointed to this role. Karl’s experience of working across the region and in different departments will enable him to continue to develop strong local relationships and embed collaborative working so we can respond better to the needs of patients in Essex. I know staff across Essex join me in supporting Karl in his new role within Essex.”
