Airport’s ambassador soaring after becoming 50,000th first aid learner with ambulance service

A Stansted Airport employee has been recognised by the region’s ambulance service for being part of a milestone in its bid to train thousands of people in first aid.

EEAST training officer Vikki Darby presented Amy-Leigh Cowler with a certificate and gifts from medical equipment sponsors.

Amy-Leigh is a Customer Service Ambassador at the Essex airport and is responsible for looking after passengers. The Ambassador Team at the airport were prioritised to receive Emergency First Aid at Work training which was run by Vikki at the service’s Commercial Training team.

Amy-Leigh received a bottle of champagne and all of her colleagues on the same first aid course received goody bags from Cardiac Science, one of EEAST’s defibrillator suppliers. Cardiac Science has also gifted Stansted Airport with a Powerheart G5 defibrillator to donate to their preferred local organisation.

Daniel Gallo, Stansted Airport’s Customer Service and Security Director, said: “Congratulations to Amy-Leigh and many thanks to the ambulance service on giving us this accolade. The safety of all our passengers and staff is our number one priority at Stansted Airport, which is why we use professional paramedics to train our teams.”

The Commercial Training team runs nearly 20 training courses every week, using trainers’ skills as paramedics to make the training as up to date and real for the learners as it can be. Vikki made sure that all of the training sessions were tailored to be very relevant to the kind of issues that the Stansted Airport teams might come across.

Mark Hayes, EEAST’s Commercial Training Business Manager, added: “We’ve been training businesses, NHS units, schools, factory staff and now airports for six years now. It’s great to know  we now have 50,000 people trained in emergency first aid all around the East of England, ready to support people in medical need.”

The Commercial Training team, based in Hellesdon, but with trainers like Vikki all over our patch, delivers training to businesses, schools, NHS units and other organisations. They charge for their services and any profit they make goes back in to supporting Emergency Operations. Spread the word and send anyone you know who wants emergency first aid training to them.
