The NHS is taking a new approach to help ensure that health and care services are built around the needs of local populations.
To do this, every health and care system in England will produce a sustainability and transformation plan, or STP, showing how local services will evolve and become sustainable over the next five years – ultimately delivering the Five Year Forward View vision of better health, better patient care and improved NHS efficiency.
Each STP, of which there are six in our region, brings together health and social care organisations in small areas to focus on its services. Here at EEAST, we’re part of:
To ensure we’re represented, and that our views play a pivotal role in how local care services can be developed, Matt Broad has been appointed as our Interim Lead for STPs. Matt will be supported by colleagues from across the organisation, from operations and HR to business development and communications.
Matt said: “I am delighted to lead how we are going to work with our partners in each STP area. I will be able to see what opportunities there are for us to play a greater role in treating patients closer to home, and also influence partners to consider the ambulance service when they develop new pathways – pathways which we can potentially refer patients into to avoid hospital admissions where appropriate.”

We’re also pleased to announce that Terry Hicks is providing interim cover as our locality director for Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, following Matt’s move.
