This week a community first responder (CFR) from EEAST is taking his skills global with a trip to the United States to support the World Scout Jamboree.

On Thursday 18th July, Stuart Little will be travelling from his home in Danbury, Essex to West Virginia, USA to join around 80 other volunteers at the World Scout Jamboree as part of the rescue and emergency services team that will respond to any incidents which occurs across the 11,400 acre Summit Bechtel reserve.

Over the two weeks that the event runs, they are expecting 50,000 people on site of which around 40,000 are 14-18 year old scouts and the rest are adults who are there to support them.

Stuart has spent the Spring undertaking additional training to his CFR role in subjects including incident command through to off road driving.

Upon his arrival to the summit, he will be taking part in an intensive three day training regime to get him up to speed with local protocols and procedures.

Stuart said, “I am hoping to learn a lot from my time volunteering at the World Scout Jamboree and I will hopefully even bring back a few new ideas on how we can look after our patients back home.”

Steve Catley, Lead Community Response Manager at EEAST said:

We are incredibly proud of Stuart and the work he is doing for the World Scout Jamboree and we are looking forward to hearing all the great ideas he will bring back to help us provide the best possible patient care.

When he’s not on call as a community first responder with the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Stuart is a local club scout leader in Bicknacre and a qualified high ropes instructor so he can often be found most weekends either camping or handing around on a piece of rope!
