Andy Ashman

Andy Ashman OPT

It’s with great sadness that we share news of Andy Ashman, an Educator working with us at EEAST, who tragically lost his life on Saturday morning whilst competing in the Clipper round-the-world yacht race.

Andy, 49, was working with the Trust as an external trainer; based predominantly in Chelmsford, he was an integral member of the team who helped to train hundreds of staff during his time with us.

An experienced paramedic with London Ambulance Service, Andy was fun-loving, kind and professional in every sense and will be remembered fondly by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this sad time, and the flag is being flown at half-mast at the Trust’s HQ in Melbourn in his honour.

A book of condolence will be passed to Andy’s family on behalf of the Trust, to which everyone is welcome to contribute. It will be held in Essex (rotating through Essex base stations and the Chelmsford office), but alternatively you can email your message and it will be included on your behalf.

Understandably colleagues who knew Andy well may wish to go to his funeral, which is taking place on Friday, 9th October at 11.30am at Kemnal Park Cemetary (A20 Sidcup Bypass, Chislehurst, BR7 6RR). Andy's family has asked that those joining them do not wear black, but attend in smart casual dress or uniform.

If you’ve been affected by Andy’s death and need support, please remember that the Trust’s employee assistance programme is available at any time. It’s free, confidential, runs 24/7 and can be accessed either on the phone or online. Just visit www.well-online.co.uk  (user name: EEASTlogin, password: wellbeing), or call 0800 085 1376.
