Another successful recruitment event

A recent recruitment event to attract call handlers to the Bedford control room has been celebrated as a huge success.

More than 50 people attended the event and met with teams from our AOC to learn more about joining EEAST as a 999 call handler. Colleagues from the AOC training team, along with recruitment, were also on hand to provide information about the robust training/mentoring process which supports new colleagues throughout their journey, along with updates about the HR and recruitment steps.

Mindy Thomas, AOC Manager at EEAST who led this event, said: “The day was a real team effort and a huge success.”

Attendees got to meet with call handlers, team leaders and AOC managers where they could ask questions about the role to help them understand all the pressures and challenges involved. The training team were able to talk through the training and mentoring process and recruitment could explain about the HR steps. Candidates were also able to listen to some examples of 999 calls and were then supported through the skills based assessments and the application process.

Nicola Turner, Senior AOC Manager at EEAST said: “I was so pleased with the response to the recruitment day for Bedford. It’s so encouraging to see so many people want to join us and it’s important they fully understand the role.

“No two days are ever the same, it’s not how you see it on the TV. We want to make sure people know what to expect and have real insight, so these open days are vital. It was a real team effort on the day and I’m really proud of everyone who helped out.

“I look forward to working with our new colleagues soon.”
