Be vigilant on security at stations and offices

Transparent EEAST crest

Recently, a smartly dressed man tried to enter business in Essex, claiming to be from a company called Bortec.

Allegedly he was there to sharpen and repair tools on site and asked for the maintenance department.

Bortec appears to be a criminal gang who look to get into premises to get information such as names, contact details (including email addresses and phone numbers) and so on.

Could you all please be vigilant as always when letting people into stations and offices and follow some simple steps:

  • Don’t let anyone tailgate you into a station or office building.
  • Always check who is following behind you and challenge – if safe to do so.
  • Wear your ID in a prominent position on your uniform.
  • Ensure doors and windows are closed when you leave your station/place of work.
  • Don’t prop front doors (or any access door) open.
  • Ask visitors why and who they are visiting, check with the relevant Trust department or manager and ask them to show their company’s ID.
  • If you see anything suspicious, report it to EOC or dial 999 if there is an emergency, or 101 if not an immediate emergency
