Congratulations to Ben Hawkins, an Emergency Dispatcher based in Bedford EOC, who has been awarded, ‘Young Achiever of the Year’ at the Control Room Awards 2021.

With tough competition from across the country, the judges detailed why Ben was the deserved winner.  “Ben is a passionate champion of mental health issues, amongst colleagues, the ambulance service and the wider community, including media interviews and articles. He is involved in a vast range of positive initiatives, demonstrating maturity far beyond his years. Ben has achieved so much for one so young.”

Ben said he is delighted to receive this award.  "I'm so pleased to have come first place in the National Control Room Awards for the young achiever. It is great to know that companies such as APD comms are recognising the importance control room staff play in caring for patients.

"It has been a really tough year for everyone in our EEAST control rooms but everyone has been so supportive of the mental health campaigns and the media interviews that I have done. I'd like to say a massive thank you to Suzanne for nominating me for this incredible award. I really am honoured to win out of the hundreds of control room staff nominated for amazing awards across the country and Ireland."
